Director Ryan Murphy does a good job of capturing the spirit of Gilbert’s memoir, but his script is filled with grandiose Oprah-like platitudes and pop theology that make it seem like a big-budget version of Sex and the City 2. The bloated film is also rife with what appears to be a very expensive cinematic lighting scheme that almost destroys the film’s many exotic locales.
Crazy Rich Asians
Crazy Rich Asians is based on the bestselling novel by Singaporean author Kevin Kwan and stars Constance Wu as Rachel Chu, a Chinese-American economics professor who travels to Singapore with her boyfriend Nick Young (Henry Golding). When she discovers he comes from one of Asia’s most obscenely rich families, she’s plunged into an environment of extravagance and ridiculous expectations.
The film is a must-see for anyone who loves romcoms. It reimagines a long list of tropes in the genre, including the evil mother-in-law, in a smart and humanizing way.
Fleabag
If you love British comedienne Phoebe Waller-Bridge, you’ll fall head over heels for Fleabag. The show’s a dark and funny comedy that explores relationships, depression, passion, family, and guinea pigs.
One of the best things about this series is that it only has twelve episodes, so that you can binge-watch it in a day or two. It’s also a great choice for people new to Netflix because it’s easy to understand and doesn’t take too long to watch.
The main character, Fleabag, is a snarky woman who deals with grief. She constantly exposes her feelings to the audience through fourth-wall breaks, which have become a staple of comic shows like Deadpool and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.

Co-created by Bos and Thureen, Somebody Somewhere follows Sam (Everett), a 40-something woman who returns to her small-town Kansas home after her sister’s death. She’s in a dead-end job grading test scores and feels lonely.
The series also features a strong cast, led by Everett and Jeff Hiller as Sam’s best friend, Joel. They’re joined by Mary Catherine Garrison, Mike Hagerty, and Jane Brody as Sam’s family members.
