Movies in St George, Movies have been a staple of Staten Island since the 1930s. When Staten Island theatre owner Solomon Brill built the St. George Theatre in 1928. He dreamed of making it a show house that rivaled Manhattan’s cinema palaces.

He promised to bring top-of-the-line vaudeville to the borough for 75 cents a ticket. The theatre opened on December 4, 1929.

Movies in the Park

Movies in the Park have become a staple of summer in St George. The city turns Town Square Park into an outdoor movie theater on the 2nd and 4th Friday of each month in the summer.

On December 4, 1929, Solomon Brill, a theatre owner from Staten Island, completed the construction of a 2,800-seat theatre. He envisioned it as a show house to rival Manhattan’s cinema palaces. And promised to bring top-of-the-line vaudeville to the borough for 75 cents a ticket.

The theatre’s Spanish and Italian Baroque revival style interior was designed by Nestor Castro. Unrestricted seating was one of its distinctive qualities. modern heating and cooling systems, as well as a $25,000 Wurlitzer organ. a cantilevered balcony that is among the biggest ever constructed. gilded balconies, velvet chairs, and stately staircases. Its acoustics are still considered near perfect to this day.

Located on Staten Island in New Springville. The Staten Island Mall is the largest shopping center on the island. In addition, it houses the third-largest public transportation hub in the city.
